About Steve Harwood
Steve was born in Anchorage, AK. His family moved to Woodinville, WA shortly thereafter, then to Kirkland, WA, where he lived with his family until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2003.
Growing up, Steve enjoyed playing sports and hanging out with friends. He was honorably discharged from the military in June 2007 after three tours in Iraq, and went on to work various odd jobs until being hired as a correctional officer in February of 2008.
While working at Monroe Correctional Complex, Steve earned his Bachelor’s degree in law & justice from Central Washington University. The grueling nature of being a prison worker took its’ toll, so he left the Department of Corrections to become a realtor in 2013.
Musically, Steve’s biggest creative influences are rap artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac and Eminem. This is due to his lifelong fascination with words and their infinite elaborations and uses, something Steve practiced throughout his life unwittingly through trash talking and cracking jokes with friends. From a songwriting and vocal perspective, Steve idolizes Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Chris Stapleton, Pink and Adele, irrespective to that order.
Steve makes every effort to remain open and vulnerable while writing his songs, arguably the most challenging part of the process. He draws on his vast and unique life experience to tell relatable stories that he hopes listeners will enjoy for years to come.
