The pain of a loved one's departure for an extended period is a profound reminder of our human capacity for emotions. Each of us has unique ways of dealing with this pain, whether through regular calls, reminiscing with old photos or videos, or engaging in constructive activities. Regardless of the coping mechanism, the underlying sentiments persist – unfulfilled desires or unspoken words that time has a way of revealing. Singer-songwriter Mick J Clark along with singer, Catherine Kubillus, captures these emotions beautifully in Clark's soothing track, "This Moment."
Written in the key of A Major, "This Moment" explores lyrical themes that evoke the best aspects of autumn and winter, creating a world of its own for the listener. The arrangement, incorporating elements of soul, rumba, and alternative pop, strikes a balance between contemporary and classic sound textures. The lead vocals by Catherin Kubillus play a pivotal role, delivering crafted lyrics that express the sentiments felt during a loved one's absence. Lines like "If lonely nights ever visit me, then I’ll remember what used to be… Although I hope I will never see an empty space where we used to be" exude down-to-earth honesty, providing a glimpse into the soul.
The vocal rendition, featuring a call-and-response format between male and female vocals, adds depth to the song. This structure effectively portrays the image of two lovers separated by distance, but thinking of each other at night. The choice of instrumentation, including synth string textures and solid guitar rhythms, provides a rock-solid foundation that complements the vocals.
The rumba rhythms and the brilliance of the female vocalist's low notes contribute to a warm and cushy atmosphere, enhancing the song's passion and genuineness. At three minutes and thirty four seconds, This Moment feels like a moment truly well spent, with its ability to bring loved ones in the real world, well, closer to each other with its raw innocence. The rich and eclectic arrangement that serves as the foundation to its stellar vocals helps make this number a richly ardent ode to the power of love and commitment.
