McKenna Camille

In the world of indie music, McKenna Camille stands out as a multifaceted artist, celebrated for her prowess as a singer, songwriter, and actress. Her journey unfolds as a captivating narrative, shaped by her struggles with anxiety, OCD, and depression from a young age. Rather than succumbing to the challenges, McKenna has transformed her struggles into a driving force for her musical career, crafting powerful songs that resonate with authenticity.

One of her notable tracks, "Bad One," delves into the complexities of anxiety and bullying, showcasing McKenna's ability to channel her emotions into compelling lyrics and melodies. On the flip side, her summer hit "Strawberry Shortcake" reveals a carefree and fun-loving dimension to this emerging artist. Additional chart-topping singles like "Vacation Flirtation," "Runway," and a cover of "Party Favor" further exemplify the diversity of her musical repertoire.

Looking ahead, McKenna Camille is poised for an exciting 2024, with new original music in the works. Her dedication to the craft extends beyond the studio, as evidenced by her performances on prestigious stages worldwide, including appearances at New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. Not confined to the realm of music, McKenna recently graduated from the renowned Tisch School of Dramatic Arts at NYU, paving the way for a promising acting career. Check out her interview below!

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing or performing music? Tell us about it: Hannah Montana. I watched Hannah Montana any chance I could when I was little and declared that I would be just like her.

Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career? I just performed in Paris fashion week this last October!

What has been the high point of your music path? I recently started working with a new producer and team and I love them so so much! Being in the studio with them is such an amazing experience and I would consider my new work with the high point of my music path so far.

So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? I constantly write lyrics throughout the day and a lot of the time I sit down and pull from those. Otherwise, I just start randomly singing and hope something good comes out of my mouth.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be? Social media and the control it has over our music and our creativity is the biggest challenge. Although we are so lucky to have these platforms to easily share our music, to constantly have to consider the virality of a personal song/experience is tough.

If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why? I would love to share the stage with Elton John or Miley Cyrus. Miley is my idol and Elton is my favorite musician!

Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it! I have a new song coming out in a couple months and it was incredibly difficult to write because it is about someone in my life that I was never able to write about. I would sit down and try so hard to write a love song, or eventually something meaningful, but never could. I recently decided to tackle it and it was a painfully slow process.

For fans who have never heard your music, can you pick three words to describe it?! If three words just aren't enough, then tell us more! Depressingly upbeat is what I always say when people ask me to describe my music.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, recording, something else? Tell us why: I love all of it. Absolutely. All of it. It’s thrilling, it’s creative, and though it can sometimes be difficult it’s a great experience.

Okay, this a fun question. When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? I’m a water skier! So, I spend most of my free time on the lake doing that with my friends and family! What's coming up in the future for you? I have so many songs coming out, so many shows, fashion week and just a crazy amount planned!

McKenna Camille's story is not just a musical journey; it's a testament to resilience, creativity, and the pursuit of dreams. As she continues to make waves in the industry, there's no doubt that McKenna's star will shine even brighter, leaving an indelible mark on the world of indie music and beyond.
