Game of Thrones VFX Artist Turned Musician Releases New Song Called "Creature!"
(Los Angeles)
Dustin is no stranger to the music scene. Having worked with producers like Brad Cook (Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.) and Jason Gossman (Jimmy Eat World, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.), he's finally taken what he's learned (along with his studies at musicianonamission.com) and is stepping out as his own producer. His new song, "Creature!", is making some noise with almost 10,000 streams on Spotify. The results are a lasting residue of synthy bleeps and bloops and a catchy chorus that lingers in your head like the intro to your favorite TV show.
"I never meant to haunt ya, but I'm a ghost I panicked." - Lyrics, from the single, "Creature!"
"Creature" was instrumentally inspired by bands like Bleachers and The Postal Service.
"As a kid from the 80's, any time I hear those re-imagined synth sounds I can't help but feel a bit of nostalgia. My first casette tape was Bad by Michael Jackson. I remember listening to that tape over and over on a cherry red boom box my parents got me back when we lived in Tennessee. I'm not sure I understood exactly what I was hearing, but I knew how it made me feel. The bass synth really drives the songs on that album. For the chorus (regarding his new single), I kind of had a Kid Cudi Pursuit of Happiness thing in mind. I've been a fan of hip-hop for quite some time and it was the first time it showed up in my music." - Dustin
"It was a nice escape from the fires this summer. Someone mentioned that I had a "soft rock" voice and I thought...I was just trying to be quiet so I didn't disturb our roommates! The creature/halloween theme was just by luck. The mix was finished and mastered right on time for the holiday. I felt like it had this kind-of 80's, b-horror/Thriller vibe. I thought people might enjoy hearing that."
Dustin recorded and mixed all of his debut single from an extra bedroom/office in Sherman Oaks where he moved with his wife and 2 other friends to save some money during the pandemic.
